Hiking Tips in the Ahrntal Valley
Our tips for a fulfilling hiking holiday in the Ahrntal Valley
Klaussee - Rauchkofel
The first part of the ascent can be bypassed by using the Klausberg cable car. From the mountain station on trail No. 33, the path leads to Klaus Lake, over a boulder field to the Klaus notch (Klausscharte), and from there it takes about 10 minutes to reach the summit cross of Rauchkofel.
Speikboden - Kleiner Nock
Starting from the tourist office or church, follow the hiking trail towards Weißenbach. On trail No. 18, the route passes Schöllbergalm and Nockplatzhütte to Kleiner Nock. Descend on trail No. 18A to Michlreiser Alm and from there follow the forest road, trails No. 19 and No. 18, back to Luttach, the starting point.
Kasern - Heilig Geist
Starting point: public parking lot in Kasern.
Alprechtalm
From the municipal building in Prettau, head towards the sports field, crossing the Ahr river 50 meters before it. Then, the route continues comfortably along the forest road to Alprechtalm.
Bizathütte
Starting from Mühlegg (Hotel Gallhaus), follow the road, trail No. 18, to Holzerhöfe, then turn left onto a field path to Bizahut.
Bärental Almen
Take the cable car to the mountain station (1600 m). From the mountain station, follow the forest road (No. 2) to Schwaiger Höhen. Ascend towards Bärental (No. 13A) to Pfärraböden and descend to Hochfeld Alm (1837 m) into Bärental. Now descend through Bärental (No. 7) on the orographically left side of the stream to the water control station. Continue downstream to the main road and briefly follow it to St. Jakob.
Holzerböden
From the inn, we hike westwards to the Kirchbühel of St. Jakob. Passing several farms (No. 5), later through the forest to Wollbachalm (1607 m). Continue through the forest and clearings (No. 5) to Keilböden (from here, Kellerkopf (2124 m, great view) can be climbed). From Keilböden, continue into Keilbach valley, past the dilapidated Oberhütte, staying at the same elevation to Golser Albl (1817 m). First level, then steeply up, through the forest and past rugged rocks to Holzerböden. We hike to Holzerhöfe (No. 6) and down to Bizahut (1414 m). Descend via trail No. 18 to the hamlet of Mühlegg in St. Johann.

Wollbachalm
In the center of St. Jakob, the trail No. 17 or 1 starts, following it to the shrine. Here, trail No. 1 branches off to the left to Hühnerspielalm. Continue to Innerhütten, from there trail No. 5 over Wollbachalm back to St. Jakob.
